If I don't use AC, will there be no AC maintenance?

Not all vehicles operate the compressor while using the defroster, which vehicle were you discussing?

I did not say that the 87 Reliant was the first or last to have flow through ventilation. It was just the first one I owned without it. I believe GM got rid of it earlier to sell more A/C.

(see what I mean, folks?)

We were speaking in general terms, on another car forum.

I’d still wager a bet that on more than half of all vehicles equipped with an A/C comp, the defogger mode utilizes it.

Got rid of which - the Reliant, or flow-through ventilation?

The original poster of that link was probably a bot.

ā€˜Automotive Forums’ (Igor Sushko’s site, he used to race, probably still does) is headed completely down the tollet, because adminstration over there refuses to take the migration over to social media, and the influx of bots, seriously.

Three out of every four new ā€˜members’, since about three years, is an automated, cross-posting bot, probably from Whoknowswheristan.

I suspect most cars do operate the ac when in defrost. Fairly easy to tell if the compressor kicks on or not. The only thing is there is a cold temp switch, at least in mine, that won’t allow the compressor to come on if it is freezing out, like in Minnesota in the winter. My only point was I think it is silly to have it and not use it. The cost is really not much.

Nice little read, but you have to read past just the one post… lol

Yes as a rule of thumb, or most (key word most) of the automotive vehicles run the A/C while in def mode partly to keep everything lubricated during the off A/C seasons, while the other reason is to dehumidify the air, as blowing dry, warm air onto the cold windshield clears condensation/fog much faster and more effectively than just warm humid air… and yes for safety reasons, some/most/all use pressure switches to keep from damaging the A/C below x temps…

This is NOT a blanket statement as there are exceptions to every rule…

And since we are mostly in the US market, I am not talking about the rest of the world, not their, don’t care what they do in their market… and I really don’t care if I used their/there correctly, this is car talk, not an English course forum… lol

Dave- your english is just fine, even with a southern accent.
