Most vehicle’s bucket seats seem really comfortable to me. I don’t think I’d want to sit in one to watch TV in the living room though. The thing that makes them comfortable for driving — they hold you firmly in place – would make it hard to get up and make a peanut-butter sandwich and sit back down before the commercial ends.

Exactly this. When going around corners, I’m held firmly and securely , and don’t ever feel like I’m falling out of the seat.
While you have seen me trash my POS '74 Volvo many times, I do have to say that both the brakes and the seats were excellent. Back in the '60s and '70s, Volvos were one of the few makes with seats that were totally-correct in an Orthopedic sense.
At school, the Metal Shop teacher got a front seat from a junked/wrecked '70s era Volvo, and he fabricated a really nice swivel base for it. He used it as his deskchair at work, and–without doubt–it was the most comfortable desk chair in the building.
