I ran a stopped school bus

Then do, at most, 35mph in a 35, like I do.

Don’t like it being “stuck behind” me?

Go around me, and risk the consequences. I won’t speed up and try to stop you!

I find that driving in sport mode makes the car drive faster and I actually like driving in this mode than normal and eco mode as it makes me feel safer on the interstate where I might need higher acceleration to overtake quickly and also to getting on the interstate safely.

It does hurt the fuel, though.

Do you recommend driving in sport mode on the interstate ? I drive in eco in heavy traffic.

Lets see . Semi drivers with fully loaded trailers can get on the interstate highway and they are slow . You are overthinking this speed and horsepower thing . Since Interstate highway are multiple lanes there is no need to overtake quickly . I really believe you need a driving refresher course. My Ford Fiesta seems to be able to do the things you think requires a lot of power .

There is a difference between “ can” and “safer”

I can get on the interstate without much power but with greater power it is safer.

Oh yeah, you user name really says it all… the more power the safer it is huh?

If my suspicion is correct, you are VOLVO? I’m asking you a question for educational purposes on the different modes and the only one on here doesn’t answer without mocking and criticizing is Volvo.

But yes, sport mode does feel safer when I need to go quickly. There doesn’t seem to be a delay in this mode.

Try to be nice. It’s not hard.

Mr. Volvo, have you ever driven in the state of Newyork ? I’m under the impression you “ probably “ have not, considering you know me for a very long time on this forum.

In Newyork, we move at a fast pace. The police don’t seem to care that the left lane on an interstate is going 10-12 miles over the posted speed limit. I see daily on the interstate people are traveling much faster than that ( up to 15 miles over the posted speed limit ) and the cops are on the interstate patrolling and doing nothing about such speeding, unless people are going 20 mph over.

We do need to pass ( overtake ) on the interstate in the left lane quickly if we aren’t planning to travel in the left lane. Vehicles that hold up traffic in the left lane will most certainly get pulled over and ticked.

No I am not Volvo-70 (it that is the member to whom you are refereeing…).

I may not be “nice” as you consider nice; however, I am not being “Not Nice…”

I am just trying to clarify your blanket statements, statements that are often unsubstantiated and seem to come from thin air…

I can assure you that when I enter an interstate from a ramp and need to match the speed of those already on the interstate, the Lexus V6 does that without me needing to do much operation. I cannot say the same for my previous 4cylinder Camry.

Alright. My apologies then. :v:

No dispute about that. Facts are facts. But the question remains is whether a $400 fine for a first time offender doing 42 in a 35 is a just fine & proportional to the offense? Remember that most of the $400 isn’t actually paid by the offender, but by the business owners and staff the “speeder” would have spent the $400, if they hadn’t had to pay the fine. The offender’s most likely punishment is since they can no longer afford a restaurant, they have to eat their own cooking … lol …

$400 is a bit steep, I agree. But since I do the limit on local roads, I guess I won’t find out what a fair fine amount is…!

I think it is great you try to be a safe driver. It’s good for the other drivers using the same road, and the businesses you spend your money at too! Good for you!

A 35-mph area generally has bicycle lanes, crosswalks, sidewalks and business driveways, what is the price of safety when you ride your bicycle? Should motorist drive at a speed they feel safe or a speed that is reasonably safe for others?

When a police officer writes that traffic ticket, they probably understand that liquor stores and drug dealers will also suffer some financial loss as a result of the penalty.

I don’t assume that money was earmarked for the church or small business owners.

lol … well, I guess that’s one way to look at it … lol …

You are protected against excessive fines by the 8th amendment. Problem is you’ve got the California legal system to get through first. But then what’s to stop them at $400 when they could just go to $400,000 and bankrupt the violators?

shhhhh . best not to offer up any new ideas for gov’t income … lol …

Too Late…

In my area of Virginal, called Hampton Roads, the local governments do not need any help, they all have their imaginations going full blast, from granting Native American Tribes the ability to bestow “reservation status” on bought or rented land to build casinos in more traffic convenient areas to installing “illegal” speed cameras (and let the public sue us…). Well on lawyer is suing them…

Speed cameras in Suffolk, Chesapeake target of new lawsuit.

And this is something new? It’s been going on for years in numerous jurisdictions for years.

I do not doubt that is is happening all over, but the bill to allow this in Virgina has not passed the legislative process yet,nor has it rached th governor’s desk…

So, at this time, it is not legal in Virginia… That’s all…
