I have a 2003 hyundai accent with 87k miles. Recently whenever i attempt to put gas in my car, the pump will stop-like my tank is full! This happens regardless of how much gas is in my tank! What’s going on??
That is a typical question from someone who has ignored the instructions in the owner’s manual or on a sticker on the car warring you not to top off the tank when you fill it.
Topping off the tank can damage the vapor recovery system and cause this problem. It can also be caused by a defect in that system, or the specific pump/station you are using just may not be getting along with your car, you might try another.
The anti-spill valve, in the tank, could have stuck closed. You could use a flexible rod to put into the filler pipe and push against the anti-spill valve. This may open it.
There may be a kink in the fill pipe, or, some parts of the fill pipe (it’s NOT one piece) may have have come loose. It may be necessary to replace the fill pipe. Seek counsel of a qualified mechanic.
Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate your taking the time to advise me.
