my insurance provided roadside assistance company had notified me that the wait may be 120-180 minutes, I called the service provider and he told me he had 2 customers in front of me and was working on one,
when I called back to get a status update, he said he had 3 customers, I decided then
to find someone on my one which could come sooner, while the second service was on the way, the first service provider called that he could be there earlier because he
was now in the area- luckily the second guy showed up as promised- roadside assist
has never been satisfactory
Take your receipt to your insurance agent and you might get reimbursed for the cost.
yes, they do, I also get a quote sent to the phone to avoid a hefty surprise charge
I got a 102mi tow request reply in 20 min. Driver showed up within 1 hr. Maybe they like that better then a 12 mi tow?
I have seen customers have to wait 2,4,6+ hours for AAA before… in my area…
Most insurance company’s will just reimburse you if you give them the receipt…
I have road-side assistance with my insurance company (State Farm). I can use any company I want. They just reimburse me. Luckly we’ve only had to use the service ONCE in the past 30+ years.
you are lucky, we had to use them numerous times over 30 years, mainly for flat tires due to road hazards, like nails- tire places overtorque the lug nuts and I can’t put on the spare tire, I also have trouble with changing truck tires -
good point, maybe that’s how the long wait time for some roadside help can be explained -it’s all profit driven
Not entirely profit driven - amount of service calls - number of service vehicles - location of calls plus trying to keep from doing a lot of back tracking to meet demands - maybe some calls might be a priority do to certain stances
That is why I have 3 roadside service numbers on my phone.
I had a similar tow 3 yrs ago. Saturday at noon. Same area. Same destination. No one would accept my request. Car was at friends house. I went home. Truck picked up my car Sunday morning.
I’ve had Amoco, whoever they are now since quitting aaa and never been disappointed. I told beforebthough that their answering service once couldn’t find Minneapolis, let alone the airport. Still never had a response issue with them.
I have towing also on my insurance but have never have never used their roadside option. I just call my own and submit for reimbursement. I have read that many use the same service.
Aaa is ANY car of your choosing. Riding with a friend? Break down? You can use your service call. Strangers car on side of road? Service is provided.
Must have been a SpellCheck error. I doubt that a big company like Amoco/BP has tow trucks or that they would let another company use their name. It may have been an Amoco franchise store, but that would limit the number of trucks available.
Amoco motor club. Used them since 1976. They contract with towing service the same as aaa does. Aaa doesn’t have their own trucks either except in metro areas. I used to work for them so have a little understanding of their operation.
Were they both the same truck? Tow services contract with insurance companies and AAA at a discounted rate. Cash customers are more attractive.
Which customer gets highest priority? The $150 tow, the $35 jump start, or the $22 AAA jump start?
If you don’t have the tire place correct this, then you should at least break the nuts and fix the torque at home where it’s presumably easier to do.
When I have my tires rotated, the first thing I do when I get home is to retorque the wheels. Yeah some of them are pretty tight.
Interestingly, I still see stickers for Amoco Motor Club and AAA on very old cars, from the 1970s and 1980s. I had assumed Amoco Motor Club disappeared by the mid-1990s, and although AAA still exists, I don’t think it’s very popular compared to towing coverage through auto insurance.
AAA is pretty popular in my area
They changed names several times. I’ve had to change direct deposit information several times and just get a notice every so often. My current card says bpmotor club but the number and everything has stayed the same. Can’t remember the last time I had to use it. The thing for m3 is no mater where I am or the wife is, I have one number to call and they’ll find the service. It’s only a little over $100 a year.
