How can I replace the thermistor in my 2004 VW Jetta?

My Jetta’s thermistor (coolant temperature sensor) is kaput, and I want to replace it myself. I’ve located the wires that come out of the fans, and I’ve found some thermistors that I can buy online. Just not sure how to install them once I have them. Is this doable by a weekend warrior, and if so, how?

Thanks.

I don’t know what engine you have, but I would not be surprised that it uses a sensor much like mine (2002 NB Diesel) In that case, you remove the wire, release the clamp and pull out the old one and put in the new one. You loose less than a cup of coolant, unless you are really slow.

go to car parts place and BUY a haynes or chiltons repair manual. that way you will have it in writing.how do you know it is the << thermistor >>?

what r the symptoms? whats happening?
