I have a 2003 Honda CRV with 56K miles. Runs great, but I hear an intermittent sound that I can’t place. It’s a high-pitched, almost a melodic xylophone sound. (Not the screeching metal warning sound you hear when the breaks are going.) I can’t place the location, but I don’t think it’s from under the hood. Any ideas?
To get a better idea of where the sound is coming from, have someone drive your car past you while you pace the car and listen to the sound. It might take several passes. Also, you can go to cartalk Actual Car Information, scroll down past the big ear to the “Car Noise Emporium” for “almost 30 car noises” identified.
If the sound happens when you are making tight turns, the rear differential fluid needs to be changed.
