Highly unlikely I will turbo my new BRZ

It wasn’t that long ago I was having a tough time deciding between a used Mustang GT and a new '24 BRZ Limited. I chose the BRZ and am so glad I did. Originally I thought about eventually adding a turbo or supercharger, cold air intake and other mods to my new BRZ. But things changed.

Just not my BRZ, but BRZs and GR-86’s are very striking and attractive looking classy looking sports cars. Every time I look at my BRZ I think, wow what a beautiful car. When I start it up, the engine just sounds so, so good. I am 99% sure I will not be adding any turbo or super or cold air intake to my BRZ. Yes, there are many rewards that go with adding those, however there are many risks that come with these as well. I’m going to leave the little guy stock, I just hate to take the chance of doing these modifications and end up ruining what appears to be a truly great car. I listen to its engine and know it is a great engine.

Yes, I would like a more powerful car, and NOOO trading in the BRZ for it is not even in the picture, it’s a keeper. I am saving up already for a Seawolf Grey c8 Z51…and yeah, I will leave it stock, too. Why take the chance of ruining a pefectly good car. I am looking at the future Corvette because there is just nothing in its class for the money.

I think you are wise to leave the car/engine stock.

Every so often we hear stories of people who have done “mods” or “upgrades”, and it ends up biting them hard eventually.

Not to say that customization is all bad…but the engineers that designed and built your car know a heck of a lot more about building a reliable vehicle than most folks do.

Enjoy the ride.

No modifications is a great idea for a car still under warranty. It’s a good thing you chose to leave it stock.

Don’t disrupt warranty

Either way, as long as you enjoy the ride, that is all that matters… My truck is the only vehicle I have ever spent money on for upgrades that had zero to do with performance or speed, although still planning on the tune for the trans, but that will just make the trans last longer and not kill itself hunting gears…

Sometimes the engineers hands are tided and systems are compromised for EPA stuff and NOT longevity, and stuff like nice shifting automatics and what nots…

Now with that being said, just wait until a BRZ drives by that sounds just a little different and a little better and you just got to have it…

But a cold air intake will not add enough of anything to justify the cost vs the stock unit, maybe if you add a free(r) flowing exhaust, a tune, maybe T-stat, etc etc , then it might, but otherwise 1-2 HP is not anything you will ever feel on the street…

But yeah, if you can’t afford to replace what ever you modded out of pocket, don’t mod it… But you seem to have that under control…

Plus mods can void the warranty on the effected parts modded if they can prof it caused the failure or part of the failure…

I want to lower my truck, it is a RWD on a 4WD chassis for whatever reason, but they have a kit that uses all the factory shocks and springs f&r, to keep the factory ride (nice kit), but I don’t want something stupid to happen and Toyota decline a warranty claim over lowering the truck 2-3"… lol

Life has a funny way of changing YOUR plans…… A good friend of mine, who is early 20’s (same age as my daughter lol) bought a used Challenger R/T, then traded up to a NEW 22 Challenger Scat Pack Wide Body, then got the itch a few years later (early last year) to get a 2019 Grand Sport (0-60 in 3.6 secs), his GF got a 23 Civic w/performance package…
Then they got married, are having a honeymoon baby, the Scat got stolen (before wedding), and now new wifey is driving a new Lexus SUV and he is driving an old Eclipse while saving a but load of money for the new baby…

I bet your engine’s intake and exhaust systems are pretty well optimized for power. You can change the exhaust sound, but not much power to be gained. And forget about a CAI, waste of money.
