By now, Tesla likely has paid a lot of the nonrecurring costs for the Model S, if not all of them. They can afford to drop the price and still make money. Tesla also has a burgeoning market in China, unlike any more traditional manufacturers.

Then again as we read about Muntz, sold his cars for $5000 but cost $6000 to make. Never know but I suspect the stock holders want to see a little more volume.
