My 1998 Honda Civic hatchback seems to run fine, but the check engine light is on. I went to an auto parts store and had them check the computer code to find out what the problem might be. The code said the car is misfiring on all cylinders. That seems unlikely since the car seems to be running fine.
Is this diagnosis correct?
How do you fix it?
Is it bad to drive with the check engine light on in this case?
It may be correct. “Misfiring on all cylinders” can be recurrant but not continuous. It may feel like the car is running okay even though the firing of the spark plugs isn’t up to snuff.
There should have been more definitive codes too that would suggest areas to look at. Exactly what codes did they read?
And how long has it been since you had a good tuneup?
In order to help you, some of the folks who frequent this forum could use the alphanumeric code (like P0408). The auto parts store diagnosis really isn’t enough.
When is the last time you changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires?
