Help Locating Shifter Assembly for 2002 Toyota Celica

I recently purchased my first car a 2002 Toyota Celica from a private seller and took it in for inspection. Unfortunately, it failed due to a damaged shifter assembly, which needs to be replaced before the vehicle can pass inspection and be registered in my name.

I’ve been searching for a replacement shifter assembly but haven’t had any luck finding one compatible with my vehicle. If anyone can point me in the right direction or has information on where I might locate this part, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Ps it’s an automatic

Thank you in advance.

You don’t say if the vehicle has a manual or automatic transmission.

Because it matters.

Maybe that’s why the OP hasn’t been able to find a shifter!

Your only source for a replacement assembly might be from a local auto recycler. (junkyard)

Have you noticed difficulty shifting into gears? If not, why did it fail?

Probably because the shift lever interlock isn’t working.

Which is a safety component.

The shift doesn’t lock into place and I can’t shift into park

Okay!

Who TRIED to fix the shifter?

When I got the car it was already messed up I didn’t see an issue since it could still drive and thought I can just fix it for a later date but when I took it to get it inspected the mechanics were taking a look at it and messing with it but I need it fixed to pass inspection

From what I see, the best advice I can give is, ask relatives, friends, and co-workers if they know of someone who works on cars on the side.

For all we know, there’s nothing wrong with the shifter assembly. But instead something fell down between the shifter and the bezel and is preventing the shifter from operating correctly.

Then that would mean you would only have to replace busted trim pieces.

I got this from a simple Internet search.

85 bucks and maybe a shipping fee from Columbus Ohio.

This is exactly what I’m looking for thank you so much do you know if it’s a reliable website to shop??

No clue, none. It took me 10 seconds on a search engine to find this.

Go to Ebay motors and search. At least they rate their sellers. I haves boughf a few used parts that way. Sometimes it is an issue and you get the wrong part but it can be returned.

I’ve been searching all over eBay for hours and have other people searching as well can’t find anything

Can’t find on Ebay?? Then take a risk and buy it from Ohio.

This is a 23 year old car long abandoned by Toyota.

Either take a risk or start walking everywhere.

I don’t know who is helping you search EBay but here you go…

This took me about 40 seconds to find.

And HERE

Took 10 more seconds…

Maybe a local body shop can fix this shift problem,

I doubt the seller will take the vehicle back but you can ask.

Even I could find lots of possible places that might have the shift assembly with a web search.

Those both are showing Camry shifters and the pictures look different than the Celica one posted..

Just checked car-part.com
Best to use your VIN for best results…
