I am not on board with the dynasty effect. Bush, clinton son of bush, obama, then clinton ie Hilary, that would make 24 of the last 32 years of the presidency ruled by 2 families. GIVE ME BREAK!
ps trust me i’m an engineer! just for fun
Looks like the AWB, mag limit and background check bill didn’t get passed today.
I hear the background check part of the ammendment that fail and was suppose to be the part with the best chance was pretty watered down with little more then extending background checks to gun shows and a few more provisions to enhance state record keeping…and it still didn’t get the 60 vote max to avoid a filibuster. It did get a majority, but all it takes now is one senator to " say " there is intent to filibuster and the bill or amendment will sit.
Even though most people think maybe it’s a good idea to keep criminals from getting guns, it’s more for congressmen to get elected.
from what I had seen, the biggest parts of the BGC bill was something pretty much already in place; gun show sales and internet sales. Vendors/shop owners at gun shows are required to run a check before they sell to anyone, and internet sales are shipped to an FFL where the FFL runs a check before the buyer takes possession. The private sales that take place are exempt, which they pretty much are now, anyways.
The mag limit/AWB got like a 40-60 vote, so not even a majority vote there.
I know this is far from over, and I doubt it ever WILL be over with, but you gotta wonder what they’ll come up with next.
I’ve also read that Cuomo has tried to subpena medical records from psychiatrists in New York, but haven’t seen how that’s played out yet. And while I agree with it, I don’t agree with how they are doing it. I know a lot of the shooters from the past have been on anti-depressants or some other kind of mind altering drugs
I only hear those that disagree say, "this doesn’t work, we like background checks, but we can’t tell you how "
BGC are not in place on Internet sales and gun shows. Everyone against BGC says that. But, if I put an ad in Uncle Henry’s on line in my state, some one from another state where it’s illegal, simply drives to my state and buys the gun…then drives back with it or 50 guns they can then can sell " on the street". Or, a straw purchaser can buy any number of guns and take them back to his state.
Unlicensed dealers at gun shows in some states ARE NOT required to do back ground checks., And we keep running around in circles cause opponents keep saying these big falsehoods, over and over and over and… While 40. % of all guns are still sold without BGC, many of which are ultimately bought by criminals…and opponents know that !!! They just keep blowing smoke !
It’s up to the US congress as part of the federal government as the only endity that can pass a bill that does something about BGC in Internet gun sales, buying guns at gun shows and straw purchases ACCROSS STATE LINES.
" I know this is far from over, and I doubt it ever WILL be over with, but you gotta wonder what they’ll come up with next. "
Next Item Will Be Background Checks For Pressure Cooker Purchasers. Oh, And Knives, And Then . . .

Assault rifles are the current craze among macho males. Before their budgets recover from the cost of satiating their vanities and egos with the hardware and software fads a new “trend” will emerge.
Whatever happened to all those CB radios that were so popular years ago? I’ll be 10-8 at the house. 10-4?
CB radios gave way to cell phones. Also, many women love the AR-15, too
Assault Rifles in the hands of civilians are what they are. High capacity low recoil easily managed weapons that allow low skilled and untrained peoples of all types to spew out lead faster then their pea brains can comprehend. That’s what makes them dangerous and why they are so deadly. Unlike a WW2 weapon, they require less training. skill and intel to handle. And THAT is why they are popular among many of the fringe element.
I saw that the firearms manufacturers were offering pink models, @bscar. Is Smith & Wesson advertising in Vanity Fair these days? Are they offering an accessory ensemble of color coordinated shoes, hand bag and assault rifle?
And CB radios became a status symbol in the south in the 70s after the song “Convoy” climbed the charts. Very little significant conversation was ever conveyed over the air by those who had their ears on. The truckers who actually used CBs could never get an open channel because of the idle chatter.
But don’t you think that the vast majority of firearms being sold today are the result of people who feel compelled to jump on the band wagon?
I don’t remember the particular gun, but I did overhear a woman at Cabela’s mention she liked the bits of purple on the gun she was looking at. I’ve also seen pink .22 rifles for sale as well.
Not sure about band wagon jumping, but some buyers are in panic buy mode, causing those rifles to fly off the shelves as soon as they come in.
In my case, I never really cared for the AR-style rifles. But I bought a.22lr ,version($300 vs $1200) just to see what they were going on about when they started this AWB thing. Now I’m in the market for a real AR-15 because I like the .22 version so much. It’s one of those things that’s difficult to explain WHY you like it, but those that do, do. The only way to convey the “why” would be to offer you a trip to the range and let you shoot it yourself. So if you ever find yourself in central Ohio…
I agree @bscar2. Plinking with a rim fire .22 was a favorite pass time of mine for years. I was raised in a hunting family and we did a lot of shooting growing up with my older brothers as avid hunters. I see no problem with a rim fire .22 version of anything…it is NOT a man killer and can be a lot of fun. There is no need to do the same with the .223 center fire cartridge except to prepare to kill as the ammo is too expensive to do otherwise compared to a .22… It serves no other purpose.
If I had any need for an assault rifle I would prefer the AK-47. It is more durable, dependable, and the round is much more suited to close range spray and pray. Hopefully I will never have any need for anything larger than a 22 bolt action or a 12 ga pump.
I think the pink ones are to go with the pink Jeeps. I don’t think I’ve got a pea brain and I don’t own an AW, and probably would just go with the .22, but its not a matter of NEED. Its a matter of WANT and if I want one and want to pay for it, what business is it to anyone else if I use one on the range or on the farm? I don’t need a new car, a new house, winter get aways, and so on, but I just want it. As long as you don’t have to pay for it, whats it to you Feinstein or anyone else what I do or buy. If the Sheriff doesn’t have a problem, don’t see why anyone else should. Its just fun like golf or sailing. People don’t have the option of determining what someone elses wants in this country yet. And no matter what I have, I don’t intend to kill or rob anyone with it.
The pea brain comment in context was for those who are unskilled, untrained and allow the weapon to fall into the hands of mentally unstable, like the mother of the New Town shooter. Just having the weapon around and available keeps me from wanting a tank with the auxiliary flame thrower. (sarcasm) Even proponents of gun legislation keep flashing around the BS about evryone having 2nd amendment rights…like the framers intended any weapon two hundred years later to be easily accessible. Like, we would be OK with any weapon be made available to anyone two hundred years from now ? That makes the framers pea brain if that was their intent. I have yet to have that question answered by opponents of stronger gun legislation.
From Where I Sit When We’ve Got People Loose Who Have No Qualms About Making Bombs Out Of Pressure Cookers And Using Them To Kill And Maim Americans.
This Isn’t A Good Time To Try And Disarm Our Law Abiding Citizens, Period.
In Boston, the city is basically on lock-down and people are are asked to stay in their homes. I would hope that the folks have weapons in their homes, lots of big ones.
Disarming our citizens would be the equivalent of disarming everybody in a school and putting a silly sign on the locked door that announces it. I’d much rather have nut-job terrorists wonder if they’re “feeling lucky” when they mess with American citizens, not rest assurred that we have no adequate defense available before police can arrive.
It was said that it was too bad congess just wasted the opportunity to deal with the violent murders that caused them to want weapons ban. Missed was a good chance to discuss the real problems, violent people and unstable mental cases, Violence culture of Hollywood/Video Games, and foreign terrorists, the murderers on the loose. There are people who want to kill us by any means available, including guns, knives, IEDs, etcetera. Knee-jerk reactions and feel-good restrictions aren’t the way to go. What a waste of time, money, and opportunity !

The proliferation of “Call of Duty” wannabe weapons makes us less safe. A hail of bullets from some crazed mass murderer is no more deadly than a hail of bullets from a neighborhood ENFORCER who thinks he will become a hero by killing the bad guy.We don’t need the streets filled with George Zimmermans armed with Bushmaster .223s.
And yet, my question still goes unanswered. Is it OK to give weapon assess to anyone with technology that will exist 200 years from now ? . It’s all about technology and at some point, those with sense have to decide what technology level for killing should be made available to the criminal element
Still waiting…
CSA - I take it you’ve never been to Boston??
Have you seen homes in Boston or Watertown??? An armed citizen who THINKS they see the shooter and then starts shooting…could very easily spray bullets into 20-30 homes (they are that close together). How many INNOCENT people will be killed if that starts happening??
The last thing the police need to see are armed civilians, some with assault weapons. Stay at home with a shot gun if you must. No, even those with permits are trained in dealing with criminals. It’s the Clint Eastwood in us to think otherwise. The US is filled with people who feel just because they own a gun, they know when and how to use it. Like having a car makes you a good driver.
