Grumbling or Growling?

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 3.6L. I have what sounds like a grumbling or growling sound when I accelerate onto the highway. It’s only presenting when I am heavy on the gas. Stops once I let off. Nothing when turning or stopping. And I put it up in the air and checked the bearings and they all seem solid. It idles quietly. I’m at a bit of a loss…

It would help if we knew what type of vehicle you’re talking about.

Some here have access to technical information about vehicles.

But like the counter person at the parts store, they can’t help you unless they know the vehicle you’re talking about.

Yeah, I guess that would be helpful. I fixed it. Thank you. (2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 3.6L)

With little to no information about where the noise is coming from, like front, back, left front wheel area, right rear wheel area, floor board area, rear hatch area etc etc, it makes it harder to diagnose…

It could possibly be your rear pinion bearing…

Is it a RWD or 4x4??

Would you mind spacing out the redated (blocked out) word…

I wish I could pin it to a particular spot. I have tried it with windows up, everything off. And I have tried with the windows down. I even drove through a small tunnel. The sound just seems to be throughout. The sound resembles a bad wheel bearing to me. And it is only present when I am on the gas. It goes away the moment I let off the pedal. (I changed the redacted word. Apparently they frown on the word h a r d when used in that way.)

RWD or 4x4/AWD??

Sorry, 4x4.

Check your rear diff pinion bearing, check the driveshaft carrier bearing and driveshaft cv joints… Also make sure the rear diff bushings are not worn out/broken… Basically check the driveline out…

But it does sound like a pinion bearing roaring under acceleration…

You may need to buy a set of Chassis Ears to locate the noise, or find a shop that does chassis/driveline repairs…
