Went to replace the wiper blades for the first time on this car, get out there open up the packages, slide the old ones off - no adapter in new box. Can’t get the old adapters off the old blades. New blades don’t fit without them. I’ve never run into this before and am puzzled. Is there supposed to be some way to swap them off the old ones because it sure doesn’t appear that they can come off. Yet I can’t find any place that even mentions them as a part that even exists.
Pictures are worth 1000 words (you know, more or less). Or at least say what style connector it is.
I’ve never had a vehicle with anything but the J-hook style, and every wiper blade I’ve ever bought seems to be set for that style by default. But I’ve also always gotten adapters in the packet with new wiper blades (I think).
If you bought them at a local auto parts store (big box or not), I’d go back with them and say “hey, what’s the deal?” I’d imagine they’ll know what to do.
The J-hook style:
Just go to your local parts chain store and buy them, they install them for free…
Most likely the reason the wipers don’t fit is either you cheeped out or bought the wrong wiper blades for your vehicle, I always try to buy the exact fit no adapters needed wiper blades…
That’s the kind of wiper arm Rockauto shows, the J-hook style.
If you’re sure they don’t fit I’d return the blades, the package might have been opened before you bought them. All replacement blades should be able to work with that. What kind of blades were they?
I watched about 20 videos and not one of them mentioned, or showed the adapters that are on the old blades. This was one of those 20 videos. Adapters that are not in any of the many boxes of different brands, prices and stores that I went to. I bought Michelin blades after comparing what were in the boxes from every brand at Walmart, Autozone and Advance Auto. They all appeared identical and none of them included the push button connector that I assumed came off the old blades and was to be transferred to the new blades.
Adapters weren’t needed when they manufactured the vehicle. Direct fit wiper blades would be easier to install.
That is where I got the ones I have. - again, after doing exhaustive searches for the correct size. The ones I bought were the result of such a search using my vehicle specs. No mention of any push button adapter.
Your vehicle has the push button type wiper blades.
I don’t see why an adapter would be needed if you get push button type wiper blades?
Tester
Please take pictures of the wiper arm, the center section of both the old and new blades.
Actually I have just ordered the Gm oem blades for my Pontiac. A little more expensive but work fine. Nice info from tester though.
