I recently replaced the fuel pump on my 2001 GMC Savana. Now whenever I stop the van I smell a lot of gas vapor, and I get an error code indicating a lean mixture. There is no breaks in my fuel lines and there is no leakage on the ground. I’m not 100% certain I put the hoses to the Airtex fuel pump correctly. How can I tell which one goes to the filter?
You may have reversed the lines, and sent pressurized fuel into the return circuit. The pressure regulator is not a two-way design. The fuel filter should be close to the tank. Just trace the line from the filter to the tank. This will be the pressurized line from the pump. The other line is the return line from the regulator, and the small line is the tank vent line.
