Gear Shift Shudder

Here is my problem:

Right after I shift gears there is a shudder that lasts just a few seconds. It only happens occasionally and has happened when shifting into first, second (the most noticeable), and third gear. It almost feels like when you try to shift into a higher gear than is needed, but I know I am shifting into the right gear! It is a manual transmission 2004 Honda Civic and has 106K. Any thoughts???

You’re describing clutch shudder.

Clutch shudder occurs when the flywheel surface for the clutch disk developes hard spots. These hard spots are created from that part of the flywheel surface that overheats.

I’ll bet once the clutch assembly is removed from the flywheel, you’ll see the blue areas of flywheel surface causing the shudder.
