Gas tank

I was unable to fill my tank more than to half its capacity and was told that my gas tank had “imploded”. I was also told that this was not the only instance of this problem with that year/model.

Of late without repair the problem has disappeared.

Does anyone else know of this peculiar situation?

Well what year Millemia do you have? I take it you are saying your gas tank was crushed, and that was verified, as opposed to having a problem with the vapor recovery system, which is more common especially on cars that the owner’s like to top off the tank when they fill it up?

Is it still under warranty? Who told you it “imploded?”

"was told that my gas tank had ‘imploded’. Of late without repair the problem has disappeared"
The tank imploded and then it fixed itself?
That would have to be the first instance of a self-repairing car.

I would suggest pursuing the more likely possibilities of a problem with either the evaporative emissions system or the valve in the filler neck that is designed to prevent leakage in the event of a rollover accident.

"Is it still under warranty?"
Since these cars went out of production in either 2002 or 2003, I think that warranty coverage is very unlikely at this point.

2000 model year. I took it to my regular mechanic.

If the problem recurs I will keep that in mind. Thank you.
