My 2000 Ford Windstar has a strong gas smell coming out of the vents when it is hot out and when I turn the a/c off before going over a mountain pass. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
If you smell gas, then you have a leak of either gas fumes or liquid gasoline–and either situation is potentially very dangerous.
If the problem is the result of gas fumes, then your evaporative emissions system is the probable source of the situation. If liquid gas is the problem, then a leaking fuel line is likely to be the the reason. In either event, this needs to be attended to by someone competent, a.s.a.p.
As the old saying goes, “A gas explosion can ruin your entire day”–or perhaps your life.
