I got home from the home store with a new bathtub (yay!) and saw a gas leak in front of the rear wheel well on the passenger’s side. The fuel filter lives there. I replaced it with a WIX 33085 from Rock Auto 2021 March 25, 571 miles ago. I took it out, plugged the hoses with golf tees (thanks, Haynes!) and one of them spread easily. The hoses and the filter look okay. I pumped up all my tires Sunday and there was no leak then. Pinch clamps hold them on. As far as I know the hoses are original equipment ('87 Toyota pickup, 2WD, carbureted). It seems odd for one to fail this way. I’ll replace both hoses and filter, I guess, 'cause it’s cheap. I spread enough baking soda to adsorb the gas. What would have been better? I’m not going to set it on fire.
It seems like you’ve properly addressed the immediate problem. For a carb’d 87, suggest to schedule in a gradual replacement of all the engine related rubber piping, fuel lines, vacuum lines, PCV system lines. It all degrades over time and use, better to do it before you are stranded. Ask me how I know? … lol … Keep close eye on the condition of the rubber brake hoses as well, and the CV boots if you have them.

I replaced many of them when I rebuilt the carb a few years ago, still have enough hose left over for this job. I forgot to mention that this was the first time I’ve driven since February.
But hopefully not the first time you’ve had a bath!
