Fuel Level Sensor

2007 Malibu. About 60-70 miles driven after the gas tank is filled, the fuel gauage drops to empty and triggers the alert light and tone. The gauge bounces up and then to empty many times for the next 50-60 miles and then stays at empty.

Does it just need the fuel level sensor replaced or the fuel pump module also needs repalce?

Unfortunately it’s all one unit. Sorry.

I went to the dealer. The fuel pump/module is one assembly, but the Fuel Level Sensor is sold separately.

Then you obviously know more about it than I do. The only reason to replace both would be to save the considerable labor involved in dropping the tank twice when the fuel pump eventually fails.
