Fuel Level Sending Unit Had A Simple Problem

My fuel gauge was swinging all over the place when the fuel level got low. I was figuring that even though it would make sense for the fuel level sending unit to be faulty, suppose it were in the circuitry or analog fuel gauge in the instrument panel? I wouldn’t know how to check that. But I got the fuel pump out and had a look at the sending unit and could see right away that the pin that the rheostat sliding arm pivots on was worn, or maybe the hole it pivots in was worn, causing the little wiper tabs to not always contact the rheostat’s wirewound track. A simple problem for a change!
