Front center seat of a pickup truck used?

For those that own one with that do any of you have anyone sit there ever or often? I find that most people tend to leave it folded down or never let anyone sit there. For those that have let people sit there do you got any trip stories?

-If this is not allowed I aplogize as this is my first post on here

If there are three of us, yes center position is used. It’s either that or ride in the truck bed.

Does it get used often?

I have a 6 seater pickup truck… 4 doors, bench seat in the rear, split bench in the front. I very rarely have had 6 people in the truck. It is a nice feature to have even though it is rarely used. I owned a 2 year older version of the truck with bucket seats in the front so it was a 5 passenger. Both were comfortable for me to drive so there was only one downside to the 6 passenger version - the center console held less stuff!

Out side of work truck can you even get 3 people in the front ? My last pickup had bucket seats and no center seat belt .

Edit: Mr. Google says that there are still some pickup’s that can have 3 in front but I did not see that the center person has an airbag . I would not want to travel very far with 3 in the front of any vehicle .

Welcome to Car Talk!!!

My daily driver truck only has bucket front seats, but my old 1993 Chevy C1500 extended cab has a front bench seat and when needed the middle has been used, although with the large transmission tunnel, it is more suited for smaller people…

And no worries about an air bag for the center passenger cause the truck never came with any air bags… lol

And no fancy fold down center arm rest either, just a good old split bench seat…

Years ago I had a 1992 Toyota standard cab pick-up, it had a bench and we used to buckle the boys between us and go on camping trips, heck sometimes when a friend went alone, I’d throw the topper on and use a cheap 2 way radios and fix a bed thingy in the bed with all our camping gear and put the 2 older boys back there and the younger boy up front in the middle, some of our best times, hard to believe we lived trough it all… lol

I cant deive but like sitting in the front middle. Sadly though I am a 250 poundand 6 feet tall guy. So I don’t get to often. Which is understandable in most cases. But the ine in my uncles truck is comfortable and well padded. Somehow lol

Now the most likely center passenger is my dog in her dog bed.

Ya wanna go back 70 years, I rode in the center position of our 46 Chevy 1/2 ton with floor shift.

Guessing you wouldent let a person sit there?

That is the worst place to be if you are in a headon crash ! Do you even have a seat belt for the center ?

Most trucks do have a belt there yes. I can not drive however so when I do sit there I allways wear a belt.

But is it a 3 point belt ? If not then in a crash your head is going to damage the dash .

In my uncles f150 yes. In my dad’s no. But I sit there on short trips in my dad’s and longer trips in my uncles

My Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4, came with a 40/20/40 Bench Seat (the driver’s and passengers seats are really 6-way adjustable bucket seats… The Center ā€œseatā€ (or Arm Rest Holder) is not adjustable and has no legroom (although there is a Seat Belt…).

If a passenger were to try to sit there, the transmission hump is very high and the 2/4-wheel drive shifter takes up a lot of the hump so the center passenger would have no option but to slide their legs down onto the passenger’s legroom side.

In the photos you can see that the cup holder would not be usable and the two power outlets (cigarette and 12-volt outlet) would be useless (now used for the Dash Cam and Garmin GPS).

If the cupholders were flipped back up I could put my feet on the hump. There’s allways that option

I’d call the middle seat of a truck like this for occasional use. Would work but fairly sure its a lap belt only.

Still not as sketchy as the things we did growing up in 80’s trucks.

I prefer lap only belts for that spot honestly

That is just a wrong idea . How old are you that you don’t realize that where you want to set is just not safe? I also question your relatives judgement .

Im 22 and I dont ride in the lap belt truck often and if I do its for like a hour trip maybe.

Don’t sweat it, some members think this is Law & Order and they like to Judge everybody, especially new members…

I see construction worker crews as well as lawncare crews doing this everyday… sometimes you got to do what you got to do in life… lol
