I have a 1998 Ford Ranger manual 5-speed with 250,000 miles on it. I am having difficulty shifting into 1st and 2nd. There is no noise with this…it just feels like the the teeth are not alligning. 3rd-5th are ok, and the clutch was replaced a few years ago. I was told at one time that it might be the input shaft.(?) Any ideas?
How does it shift into first and second without the engine running?
Do you know if the clutch is releasing completely? If is not, then the 1st and 2nd gear synchro’s will get worn. Lot’s of possibles, how is the shift linkage is anything bent?
