I have been told that my 1999 Ford Escort needs to have the motor mounts replaced.
Because of the cost, what other things might they find when doing this that will need to be addressed? Once these are replaced - how long should they last?
How many miles are on the Escort? How long do you plan to keep it? Are you having problems as a result of bad motor mounts? Does it shift smoothly? Some people drive cars with cracked or broken motor mounts for extended periods without problems. This might not be worth fixing unless you plan to keep the car for a long time. As to how long the new ones will last, your guess is as good as mine.
The car has about 105,000 on it. I hope it will last for a couple more years before it has to be replaced. No problems shifting, some shimmy when going down the road. Everything has been fixed or checked out.
They should last just as long. Quality is a job once. Quality stopped once? I can’t remember the slogan. They might not find any other problems unless a CV joint went bad due to the mount problem.
