2001 Ford Escape #3 coil pack keeps going bad (4th time now), none of the others have ever gone bad. Any ideas on why? Tired of pulling the intake and replacing coil.
Is that portion of the pack in a spot that could use a heat shield?
How does / has the plug looked for that cylinder? Presumably a new one has gone in at least one of these times with the same result?
Unfortunately I think one thing that you have to consider is that a bad coil can damage the PCM, and then a PCM problem can damage a coil in turn. So perhaps the first failure messed up the circuit in the PCM and the PCM is now killing the coil. Someone smarter than me will have to verify the plausibility of that as a problem and tell you how to check it out.
