2000 Hyundai accent, owned for 5 days, when I stop at a light or idle the oil light flickers, mostly when the car is hot.
I checked the fluids and all are topped off., the temp guage seems to be working and it never goes above half way. The car idles normal and doesn,t stumble. It has a new timing belt and water pump. Seems like a great car.
The first thing you need to do is get the oil pressure tested with a calibrated oil pressure gauge. This will let you know if there are oil pressure issues with your engine. It may just be a bad oil pressure sending unit. Let’s hope so. If the sending unit is ok then you may require major engine work.
How many miles on the car?
Check the actual pressure with a test gage (kit at the parts store), but this is usually a sign of a high mileage well worn engine.
post back once you’ve verified that the pressure is actually low at idle. If it’s not, then the sensor itself may be bad.
166,189 miles. Have not checked pressure yet. Only levels.
Check the pressure. Post back.
You may have bought a problem car. If you’re lucky, very lucky, the problem is a defective oil pressure sending unit.
If it’s not that, the engine is worn out.
