I had a muffler guy replace a small flex pipe connector that’s close to the front end. I wasn’t thinking at the time but he moved the flex piece down and added a pipe.
The part that is circled is where the flex piece should be. Am I wrong to be concerned? I know flex pipes are in certain spots for particular reasons. I truly appreciate any input. Thank you.
You should be fine. Don’t worry.

I expect that will be ok. My Corolla has similar arrangement. Serves two purposes. First, it allows some movement of the engine/transmission ass’y vs the exhaust system. Important b/c engine/trans ass’ys tends to twist on rapid acceleration.
Second, it allows a shop to maneuver the engine around a little, to make room for needed tool access to various parts. For example on my Corolla replacing the water pump requires the engine be raised up 3-4 inches above the engine mount (which are loosened first) in order to remove the water pump pulley. The flex pipe allows this movement.

Yes I was told that i need the flex pipe and not to bypass it. However it does look like it’s bypassed and the flex won’t do a thing where he put it? I saved about $150 going to this guy. I hope it was a good decision.
You may be correct it won’t flex quite as good as it did before when the flex section started right at the bottom of the photo, but it will still flex. This isn’t something I — as a diy’er – would worry about. But if you want something to worry about anyway, you could ask your shop everytime they change the oil & filter to visually inspect that area just in case a crack starts to form there.
I always have wondered what exactly is underneath that braided pipe? It’s a mystery! That could be another thing to worry about I guess … lol.
Thanks so much. I appreciation you response🙂
No, it looks like is doing exactly as it supposed to. It doesn’t matter that the flex is a little farther back, but… this won’t hurt anything… and his welds look very good.
I wish I could weld like that!

He is very good. He also went and welded other parts that could come apart soon, without me asking.
Thank you for responding🙂
Did it fail due to bad engine mounts?
I don’t think so. Both flex pipes went a few months ago. I had so many repairs the last year I put the flex pipe in the back burner. I repaired the bigger one in august and did the small one this past weekend. It seems to be ok. Nice and quiet for a change. Aaaaah🙂
