I Have a 1983 toyota FJ60 with a problem when you acellerate the truck starts to shake and shutter and lose power I Have changed the carburator. And I have changed the fuel pump 4 times.Help me.
How about plugs and wires? Rotor and cap? Condenser?
Here is a video of the motor and truck with me explaing the problems it’s kinda blury because it was on a cellphone camera and it was at night but you can see it I hope it works because I dont want to type extremly long paragraphs well enjoy.
Clogged fuel filter, improperly set carb float, improperly set or defective accelerator pump, vacuum leak, faulty timing advance…
Is this one of those “feedback” computer controlled carbs?? if so, they are beyond all hope of successful repair. But first eliminate the ignition system as the culprit…
Did you change the carb and the fuel pump for this problem specifically? And it had no effect???
Can I assume that when you changed the carb you checked to verify that the new carb’s accelerator pump was set and working properly? And the same with the accelerator linkage and throttle plate?
You changed the fuel pump…did you check the pressure under the hood at the fuel line?
If the two above statements are true and the results were good, then the next steps would be to check for vacuum leakage and check the spark advance. Vacuum leakage…heck, vacuum line is too cheap not to just replace all the lines (one by one so you don’t cross them). Spark advance can easily be checked with a simple timing light. Rev the engine and watch the timing advance.
After reveiwing your film clip it sounds like you might have several problems.
First: Get the fuel tank leak fixed. It’s a fire hazard! Could cause the whole truck to go up in flames. If it does then the rest of your problems are over. Could just be cracked hoses or loose clamps that go to the tank.
Second: Get repair book or manuel that covers that carb. Sounds like you need to adjust the float level or the float might just be stuck closed. I would think that you should see gas at the site glass that you pointed out. So to me you are’nt getting enough fuel to your engine.
Third: I would put a tuneup to your engine. At least distributor cap, rotor, plugs and plugwires if they haven’t been changed in a while. If this ignition system has points in the distributor then change them out and make sure you set them correctly with a filler gages or dwell meter.
Fourth: Check to see if you have a restriction in your exhaust system. One way is to disconnect your exhaust in front of you muffler or just past your exhaust manifold and see if it makes a diffrence in your engine performance. If it does then have exhaust system replaced. WARNING! Do not do this untill fuel tank leak is fixed!
Here is part 2 of the truck video that I posted I tryed to turn on the truck but I forgot to conect the distributer. Well here it is. I will send you part 3 right now.
Here is part 3. Enjoy!

What was the problem?
Well the stupid mechanic crossed the fuel pump hoses.
