In a previous post (http://act…48399.page) had noted my initial symptoms that my V6 Passat has sounding like a diesel - although it is not! The sound is definitely under the hood - possibly the engine. It’s a steady sound that’s gotten progressively worse! I had the VAG-COM connected at Joe’s VW shop in Dedham, MA (GREAT GUY!) and the faults I got were:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16688 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0304 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0303 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16690 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0306 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16891 - Idle Control System RPM Higher than Expected.
P0507 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Any thoughts or ideas what this could mean!?!
What was the last thing that was done to the car before the misfires started?
Did you have a tune up done?
Since the codes aren’t from a common bank of cylinders, the first thing I would do would be to pull off the ignition coil sticks and spark plugs, take a look at their condition, then snap everything back together tightly, and see if the misfire issue vanishes.
If it does persist, then I would swap those three coil sticks with the other three cylinders, and see if the problems follow the coil sticks, or stay put. That would then lead to further choices.
