Hi everyone, I?ve stumped my local Saab-specialist mechanic, so I?m hoping you all can help. I have a 2001 9-5 Aero that I love, but about year ago the Saab information display (SID) started giving ?Break Light Failure? alerts. It got to the point where just about every time I started the car, about 3-5 minutes later, the alert would pop up, so I had to clear the SID to see the clock/radio display. Annoying! After I cleared the SID, it would be fine for the rest of that drive, until the next time I started the car.
I kept having friends check the brake lights, and the lights were fine. I replaced the bulbs just in case, had the mechanic check the electrical connections, and eventually replaced the entire SID, which fixed the problem for about two months. Then the alerts started popping up again, more and more frequently, and now I?m back to where it comes on almost every time I start the car. Plus the SID has also started giving occasional ?Service Theft Alarm? alerts, but I don?t know if that?s related.
Any idea what else I can do to troubleshoot this? It would be great not to have to clear the SID all the time, and even better not to have to explain all the false alerts if I sell it someday! Thanks much?
