“The Vegas casinos would give him free hotel rooms and all he could eat and drink, because they knew he always lost far more in the casino”
Yup! The guy about whom I was speaking loves to show his Diamond Club card, signifying that he is entitled to free or greatly reduced-priced hotel rooms at his favorite casino.
Somehow, he has not yet figured out that the casinos know what they are doing, and that they are still raking in much more money from this sucker than they spend on his rooms and meals. Trying to reason with him is to no avail, so I guess that he will just have to learn the hard way that he is in a losing situation.
Meanwhile, he just has to lease that new Caddy every couple of years.
As I said, it comes down to a question of values…
@VDCdriver. Consumer groups call this evil behavior on the hotel’s part. On a smaller scale, I know of a German club where they serve free salted peanuts; very tasty and it makes you want to drink more beer. Same as hotel lounge in Wisconsin; free salt cheese snacks, after all this is the dairy state! And their beer tastes great.
My parents always taught me that people have a free will to take or leave something.
Doc–I agree with everything that you say.
Each of us has to evaluate what is in our best interests, and while you, I, and many other folks understand what these hotels, clubs, and casinos are doing, other folks allow themselves to be taken in by these fairly transparent tactics.
Yes, we all have a free will to take or leave something, and you, I, and most other people with good sense will leave these questionable offers on the table without sampling them. Others–unfortunately–are overwhelmed by their baser instincts or their addictions.
