Engine Life expectancy

Hi,

I am living in Germany now and am considering buying a BMW here since I hear they are nice cars :). Anyhow, I am too cheap to buy a new one so, I am wondering if I anyone has advice on the BMW 1 series cars in terms of engine life? Within my budget (, most cars have north of 60000 miles. Does anyone know off hand (or where I can find information) about expectancy of the N46B20 engine from BMW. I need the car to work for the next 2-3 years with minimal to no hassle over that time, and I plan to drive about 10000 miles per year.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

As long as it was well maintained, you should be OK. Find one that you think is in great condition. Make sure that all the maintenance records are available. Test drive it. If you still want it, take it to a mechanic you trust and have it inspected to see what, if anything, it needs. If after all this you want it and it is reasonably priced, buy it.

BTW, since you are in Europe, I assume that it has a manual transmission. Also, is it a diesel or gasoline engine?
