Emergency brakes in the flatlands

I live in Fresno, CA which is very flat. I took my 2001 Silverado truck in to have the brakes checked at a local shop, and the service manager said my disc brakes were fine, but I needed to have my emergency brake relined. The truck only had 55,000 miles on it, and the emergency brake has never been used. He said it was very thin, and if I didn’t have it fixed (at a cost of around $275) it would eventually ruin my rear brake rotors. I checked with a couple of other shops, and they didn’t agree. I did not have the work done. Have you heard of anything like this, and was the mechanic trying to sell me something I didn’t need?

“was the mechanic trying to sell me something I didn’t need?”

Yes. E-brake pads start out thin. Even if worn they do not affect the rear rotors.

Do you expect to ever go back to this shop?
