Dutch F1 Grand Prix 8 minute VDO summary, looked like a pretty exciting race

Lando Norris vs. Max Verstappen

Exciting? Norris won by 22 seconds. One pass for the lead. Verstappen lead laps 1-17 and Norris lead laps 18-72. F1 races don’t get much more mundane than that one.

The most boring F1 race this season. If you’d picked any other race there would be more action.

lol … ok, ok, not everyone apparently found the Dutch F1 exciting. But it was indeed exciting to watch the vdo highlights, for me anyway. Tickets for F1 events are quite expensive, so I think it is great that F1 provides some vdo for the poor folks to enjoy as well. And nobody is standing up in front of us & blocking our view!

Not a car race fan. Drive cars, sure, watch others drive, not so much.

You can watch it on TV… ESPN2 carries it.

You can stream all F1 races and support races from the F1 app. Not for free.

Pluto TV, a free streaming service has an F1 channel. Not sure how current the offerings are.

I have been to a number of F1 races in the US and one in Canada. They used to be a bargain in North America… No more!

I’m not keen on Indy and Nascar, and never really been a ā€œcar guyā€, but for some reason I’ve enjoyed F1 grand prix since I was a kid and watched the races on tv, Saturday morning on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. They were time delayed by several weeks I think, but I didn’t know who won so the time delay was no problem.

So you have not watched F1 races since 1997 when WW of Sports ended?

It has changed a bit since then. But so have IndyCar and NASCAR.

only summaries. I follow the sports reports in the newspaper of course. And just finished an enjoyable book about F1. Sort of the ā€˜Entertainment Tonight’ version of its history. The Las Vegas F1 event a couple of years ago got a lot of attention in that book. And not necessarily in a good way … lol ..

Newspapers are the worst source of info about motorsports. Most any I have read do stick and ball sports and little else.

Autoweek used to be a good source but that dried up about 25 years ago

Never could get into F1 or Indy, watched Nascar when Dodge got back into it around 98ish and stopped around 2004, I have tried to get back into it but just don’t like every car being the same except for the to spec engines and the stickers on the nose…
I also don’t watch to much Top Fuel, If the doors don’t slam, I don’t like it much… However I do watch TF and Pro Stock a little, but like the Pro Mods and down much better… No Prep is my favorite of all… I can watch about any short run racing…

What was exciting about the Dutch GP wasn’t the lead. It was further back - would they pass the cars in front of them or not. The race had both occur!

What I think is the most interesting part about F1 is the strategy: Will the guy who pitted earlier for hard tires stay in front of the guy who pitted later for medium tires? Put another way, how long will the medium tires be good until they start to fall off - and will that happen before or after the hard tires start to fall off?

And on which car those tires last longer before fall off! The Red Bull’s medium tires fell off faster than the same tires on the McLaren.

I’m surprised Monaco race is still run thru ā€œcityā€. The new harbor property expansion of land is interesting.

There’s a lot of ā€œtraditionalā€ tracks still on the calendar. In no particular order:

NASCAR Daytona - everyone has a chance, so it takes much of the driver skill out of the equation.

IndyCar Long Beach - the hairpin needs to go!!

The race is still happening because of the history. It is considered one of the 3 worlds greatest races… the Indy 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix.

Monaco has been run since 1929, the youngest of the 3. To win all 3 is considered motor racing’s Triple Crown. Only Graham Hill has won all 3. Two drivers still alive have 2 of the 3.

If Monaco petitioned today to run a race on city streets, it would be rejected on safety considerations.
