Dolly or transporter

I prefer a full wheels-up transporter to pull a car behind a big truck. Even with a big car, you can’t see the wheels of the towed vehicle on a dolly. You can blow a tire and not know it before the wheel, and maybe more, is ruined. Heck, you don’t even know if the dolly and car are still back there. There are brakes on the transporters too.

The downside to the transporters is increased weight. With a small truck that might be significant.

Dollys with brakes are available, as are brake kits for activating the towed car’s brakes when flat towing.

All states require brakes when towing more than 3500 pounds. Many (such as CA) require brakes at 1200 or 1500 pounds.
