I 100% agree, my point was why has a guy been arrested for riding in the back seat and nobody else in the car? Or the people that died in the crash with nobody in the drivers seat??
Yes, there is almost always a walk around if you are determined enough, meaning nothing is idiot prof, So again with ALL this technology for a vehicle to be able to drive itself, why is it not already incorporated in ALL self driving vehicles… That part is just plain stupid…
That makes as much since as a professional welder taken his gloves off right after welding on whatever and it still smoking hot and picking the hot metal up with his bare hands… Nobody has to tell that person not to do that nobody should have to tell an automaker to make sure a driver has to remain in the seat to work… It’s called common sense!!!.. Again my really old lawnmower has a switch in the seat, it’s not rocket science… lol
And I understand the part of “What’s a bit more difficult is to determine their level of engagement”, that is not what I meant, but being able to get out of the seat while self driving is…
On top of teaching my kids how to drive and handle a vehicle, I always told them I am not worried about your driving, it is the idiots behind the wheel not paying attention that worries me… And to always be watching the driver in front of you (in either lane, yours or not) and what is going on in that vehicle… My daughters 2017 Corolla has a lot of the safety stuff like LWD, and ACC (and probably a few other things) and she doesn’t use any of it, she refuses to even use CC, but her 1st car was a 2002 Corolla CE, her only demands when looking for a newer car was that it had power windows and door locks and automatic, she hated driving a slow car with crank windows… lol
Being able to bypass the kill switch was not the point as I already stated…
The point is already having a kill switch present in any and all self driving vehicles to begin with…
What you do with your vehicle is your business after you buy it, not mine, but to a point, as long as it does not effect the safety of others like getting out of the driver seat in a moving vehicle on public roads and trusting a computer, that mind you has a long history of freezing up, shutting down, crashing, lagging, loosing WIFI etc etc… But not having it there in the 1st place should have everyone concerned…
There are different levels of autonomous vehicles that were first created by IEEE and SAE. To be fully autonomous, the vehicle needs to be level 6. The absolute BEST autonomous vehicle on the road today is at level 3. It’s going to be a while.
I understand that, but I would be almost willing to bet that the typical salesperson is not going to explain that to a new customer, and we all know how new car buyers always (cough cough wink wink) read their owners manual(s)…
Heh heh heh. When I bought my rider, I made some changes before putting it into service. Disconnected the seat kill switch, added an hour meter, added tail lights, added a hitch, added a plow mount, changed the front axle bearings, waxed it, and disabled the air bag. Just kidding. No air bag that I could find.
Yeah, I agree there are cheap and common sense devices that could and should be included to safe guard from all these automatic devices. On off switches come to mind. I still have an off switch on my computer if it gets too rambunctious.
Then they should be criminally charged with lying. This type of lying can cause an serious that could result in people being injured or killed. Any dealer that says the vehicle is fully autonomous (NOW) should be sued out of existence.
Yeah, I’m not thrilled with the Super Cruise feature either. It seems a bit too touchy with the lane changing and I know some people who have had some technical difficulties with it. Have you had any issues with it?
