Do I need to know anything important when replacing battery myself?

Hello guys! It’s been awhile. I’ve been away due to health reasons.

My 18 Lexus IS 300 FSPORT battery needs replacing. My brother in law wants to do the replacement himself but I worry there might be things I need to know about this job before doing anything.

Does the car need to be reprogrammed after a battery replacement ? My car doesn’t have memory seat.

I’m away from the car as I write this out and my brother in law has the car. I just want to make absolutely sure what I need to know before changing the battery.

The battery was always changed at the dealer.

Thank you.

Autozone changes the batteries that they sell free for most vehicles plus many places also do that.

And on some newer vehicles the battery has to be registered to the vehicle so the charging system operates correctly.

Let whoever you buy the battery from install it if they can.. And if it is difficult to install and they can’t do it, do you really want your BIL messing with it??

Me? If I was in your shoes, I would just have the dealer do it since you have them do everything else…

No use in having a 75 post thread over you worrying about what could go wrong replacing your battery…

Your money, your car, your decision…

Sorry to hear about your health issues, hope you get better soon sir…

The battery has a free replacement warranty for 24 months, 25 to 48 months: you pay the labor and 50% battery prorate.

Has your brother-in-law replaced car batteries in the past? He can’t be any worse than an Autozone store clerk. Battery installation is straight forward: connect positive cable to positive terminal and negative to negative.

Not exactly, you don’t need to be a computer programmer. Older cars needed to have the power windows initialized using the window switches, this is generally unnecessary for your generation Lexus IS.
It is often necessary to perform a steering angle sensor calibration on 2019 and newer Lexus vehicles, it affects the intuitive parking assist lines shown on the back-up camera display. This shouldn’t be a problem on your car.

Your brother-in-law probably doesn’t want to spend half a day driving to and from a car dealer to have the battery replaced and to see you pay $350 for replacement.

The only problem you might have is access. Some companies like to bury the battery.

Anyone installing a battery needs to understand the proper order for disconnecting and connecting the cables. Go watch a YouTube video.

Whoever is working under the hood here should be wearing eye protection in case something goes wrong.
