DIY a steering column key responder

My car wouldn’t start so I had it towed to a dealer. They said it will cost $200 to replace the faulty key responder. Is this something that a novice could do or should I just spend the money?

If you mean what I think you mean, it’s in the steering column and you’ll need to deal with getting the steering wheel off therefore dealing with the air bag. Like too many posters here you fail to mention the BASICS…make, model, & year so an actual answer is impossible but if you have computer chip ( transponder ) keys they must communicate with a tranciever in the column to start you car?truck?. So, unless you have DIY instructions for air bag work…don’t.
