Is this only for your personal car?
What make model and year car?
And, what do you intend to do with it? Just read codes, or more extensive diagnostics, like monitoring sensors? Code reads are fairly cheap. True scan tools can get pricey.
Prices range from about $100 or even less for a simple code reader to upwards of $10,000 for true scanners that will do anything.
