If it’s a new wireless modem (less then 5 years old) then it probably has a built-in firewall.
When I still used Windows, I used Microsoft’s own AV software; Security Essentials I believe it was called. It’s free, and it found the log-in virus on the old XP hard drive that AVG Free didn’t even recognize.
