Defogging the inside glass

Should I use just straight white vinegar or a mix with water? Last night it was cold and raining on my way home and it was a battle to keep my windows from fogging up. turning on the defroster seemed to make it worse. I had to open all my windows and get a bit damp for the fogging to go away. I plan on doing a big clean on the glass this weekend which includes all 8 windows in the car.

It got worse with the defroster on? Do you have the temperature set to high? The only way it would get worse is if you have a leak in your heater core, and you’re getting some antifreeze vapor in the air blowing out the defroster ducts. Does it smell odd/sweet/like antifreeze?

Shaving cream. Many people use it on their bathroom mirrors.

I think most if not all work that way/ And it is the OPs problem.

Indy, is this still the same $425 car you bought at a charity auction? I admire you tenacity in getting this thing to work properly, and it should be quite educational.

On the other hand there might be a more useful and productive way to spend that time. I drove cars like that in college when I was constantly broke, but spent a great deal of time tinkering to keep them going.

Actually the car has been running real well. The fogging problem was solved with a good cleaning and a weekly inside cleaning with good cleaners. The engine has been running great and I am only using about 3 quarters of a gallon of antifreeze over a month’s period from the AF lost via the overflow jog from the presure of the bad headgasket. I still need to replace one more ball joint and survive a few more cold weeks and should be fine. The figid temps haven’t impacted the engine’s performance at all, still starts right up, getting about 20 mpg in teh city. Outside of limited heat everything is going pretty well.

You can also buy a small dash mounted defogger that plugs into your cig. lighter. It blows heated air onto the windshield. Check the auto parts store or department store automotive section. Pretty inexpensive and might just be enough to do the trick.

I researched those things and could not find one that got even a decent review, all stated that they barley blew out any warm air and did very little in defrosting/fogging of the window.
