When you are on cruise control, it revs up to go up a hill, for example - in newer cars like this, it will also rev up to go down a hill - to match the set speed, downshifting.
It used to be you had to downshift (in manual) or chose the 3/2/1 gear option on the old automatics, to slow a bit without overheating brakes.
The CVT does that whether in cruise control or not. That is if I am not touching the gas when going downhill, the CVT will drop a gear range. What I am saying is that the CC seems to change the way the CVT acts, that is it changes its programming or shift curve.
