The axel on my car snapped, it is a chevy beat, called spark in other places. Anyways, when i bought it, it was fine, when i go over bumps, it makes noise like shaking a cardbox box with things inside it. It all started with me backing up, i was on a steep incline and my steering wheel was on full lock, then a very very loud thud sounded, like something snapped. I did not think much of it, then i was driving about 60km when i stepped on the brake and another loud thud occurred. It happened like 3 time and one day, my wheel was making noise, when i took the wheel off, i saw that the left axel has snapped. I went to the mechanics and told me it was because of the wheels that were protruding too much. I replace the cv axel, which was very expensive since in my place, chevy has left the country. Now, the right cv axel has made the same noise. I was wondering why this is happenning since i searched online and found nothing. Is it because the part is a duplicate part? or is it really because of the rims? the mechanics told me not to turn the wheel to full lock to prevent this from happenning but i do not know the reason since many cars use protruding rims. I am thinking of selling the car since i am a student and have no money to repair the car, i dont want to sell it but i have no choice because the new left axel, the one that snapped, made a thud noise, but the sound was not nearly as hard, maybe because it is new but i still do not want to take any chances. Someone please help me because i really do not want to break another axel.
i forgot to mention that the reason i took of the wheel and found out the snapped axel is because the wheel was wobbling which rubbed on the disc brake which was making that noise and the wobbling stopped once the new axel was installed
The protruding wheels contributed to the axle break. The axle shaft holds your bearings in place. The pokey wheels stress your wheel bearings.
The amount of miles (of km) on the car (which you donāt say) and the wheels caused one axle to fail. Clearly the other was not far behind.
If this car has lots of miles on it, more things will require replacement. Those wheels are not helping.
Where are you that Chevrolet has left ? A Spark/Beat was never meant to be modified in the first place .
it was like that when i bought it, car has 78,000km on the odometer, what else might need replacement? do you think i should repair it and keep it or sell it? parts for chevorlet are expensive here since the company left. Do you think the new axel will last long or
it was not me that put the wheels on, i bought it like that
I had to think for a few minutes before making this post . Your screen name is considered an Ethnic Slur .
That is a reason to sell it. The Spark is not known to be a particularly long-term reliable car.
And the fact that the axle snapped at 78,000km tells me the wheels are definitely the cause.
You need to at least find some wheels that have the same offset as the OEM wheels, your current ones have way to much offsetā¦
Have a mechanic/shop check the steering and suspension over good⦠You might need lower ball joints also.. Have the rear checked out also as well as all the wheel bearingsā¦
thank u very much mister, i will get it checked
thank u for your insights, i think i will just sell it, i simply do not have the money to buy new wheels
i am asian, i eat rice everyday
The term āriceā in the car world refers to vehicles that have been modified with cosmetic enhancements to make them look faster or more sporty, without any actual performance upgrades. In other words, theyāre all show and no go.
So even if I used the term that the OP did it could mean that I have a car fast enough to eat (out run) a ricerā¦
However, with turbos being added and 1800# cars, they can be stupid fast also⦠lol
like i said, i bought the car with those wheels on and the name is not related to anything, just that i am asian and i eat rice everyday, definitely not rrerlated to rice (race inspired cosmetic enhancement), i know my car is slow
⦠and, I predict that the wheel bearings are well on the way to failure as a result of those inappropriate wheels.
Getting some new or used stock/OEM wheels and replacing the axles may be cheaper than a new vehicle.
At least consider it. You may be able to get some money for the āfancyā wheels, too.
Actually, Mr. Dave, when a car is called Rice, it means the owner overdoes cosmetic enhancement. It is like clutter where the appearance of the car is ruined by **too many ** add-ons.
A car can be modified with aftermarket parts to look sporty without looking riced
Here is an example:
Offset wheels or jackup up suspension increases the wear factor considerably. Some āmodsā definitely shorten the useful life of a car.
