Cross country road trip in a 1917 Maxwell

Yet there is a biography of a Navy pilot who took his training at Pensacola. I assume by memory it was around 1939 t0 1941, I simply can’t remember. He had a honey in New England, Friday after service hours he would jump in his Ford and go see her. He drove around the clock, had maybe two hours to actually talk to her, then go racing back south.

Once he had serious car problems and did not make it back until mid day on Monday. For some reason they didn’t fly that day, so he was not caught.

Today, with Interstate that would be a hard weekend trip, but that was nearly 75 years ago. So cars weren’t necessarily that flaky in the 40’s. But, the roads sure were.
