Hey guys I love to listen to you show every saturday. I have a 2001 chevy mailbu with 160k and with in the last two week my car has started sounding like a cricket but it only does it when I press gas. Any help would be appericated
There’s lots of possible causes, not the least of which is the serpentine belt tensioner. They can make cricket sounds when the bearings get worn.
Another possibility is a worn and/or stretched and/or glazed belt. When was the last time it was changed?
Perhaps by raising the hood and manually revving the engine you can tell where the sound is coming from. If you can make it chirp, spray some “belt dressing” on the belt and see if it stops. If it does, perhaps a new belt (and maybe even a tensioner) is in order.
Another possible way to find it is to remove the belt and see if any of the belt-driven pulleys are loose, binding, or noisy when turned.
