Cosmoline grease

My car leaks a greasy substance when it gets really hot out. My mechanic said it’s cosmoline grease used in foreign cars when theyre shipped overseas. Just want to verify this info…

Cosmoline used to be used to store army surplus equipment to prevent corrosion. If your vehicle came from overseas, it’s quite possible it was treated with some sort of anti-corrosion substance.

What year is your car?
Is it leaking under any specific spot?

I’m wondering because I’ve never heard of cosmoline being used on imported cars.

I think that the mechanic used the term ‘cosmoline’ in a generic sense, referring to a very heavy grease. Were you using it that way, too, MB?

I think you really need to describe “leaks” a lot better. What leaks from where? How much? What does it look/feel like?

Actually, no. I assumed that anyone using that term would be familiar with cosmoline, especially since he used it in that context, and wouldn’t apply it inappropriately.

I’m actually wondering if the grease is leaking under the CV joints.
