Coolant pump gasket?

I own 1997 Plymouth Voyager with 165,000 miles on it. It has 3.0L V6 engine. The problem is that it has coolant leaking. Not serious yet. I check where it comes from, not the hoses not the head gasket so the last thing I suspect is water pump gasket which I cant see cuz it is covered with timing belt housing cover so I belive it is necessary to replace belt and pump too. Hope I am right so tell me whats should the estimate the cost to repair before I go to indepent shop for this. I need your help!

Thanks

Pete

It’s probably not necessary to replace the belt and pump if they’re newish, but since the labor is pretty much the same and they’re relatively cheap parts it’d be a good idea.

Replacing the water pump (and gasket) and timing belt should just be a standard timing belt job, but I have no idea what it costs on this engine or what your average local labor rates are. I’d just suggest calling around-- since this is a common job they should have a pretty good idea of what it’ll cost.

the water pump isn’t driven by the timing chain on that motor, it will be located in the passenger wheel well behind the shroud and under the alternator and is driven by the serp belt. you should check the timing cover itself though. there are two o-rngs that seal water jackets built into the cover. if you have a mystery leak that’s most likely where it is. while you in there you should think about replacing the chain and gears anyway.

I think you talking about power steering pump for this spec 3.3L and 3.8L. This one 3.0L is center inside timing belt cover and it is driven with timing belt therefore to remove and install it is must remove the belt first so Thought It is best to replace with new belt also cuz i bought it since new and has not been replaced the belt. It could be O ring leak also. Have not really look closely.
