Reciently me car has been low on coolant and the thermomedor has been riding on the high side of normal. Additionally I had noticed a chemical smell when I use the AC and a oiily smudge on the inside of the windshield.Is my coolant leaking into my AC system, and if so what is the fix?
Heater core probably sprung a leak.
This does sound like a heater core leak. Unfortunately it’s a labor intensive job and can get expensive. Breathing in coolant vapor is not good for one’s health, so the repair should be done.
In a pinch the heater hoses can be disconnected at the firewall and connected to each other to bypass the heater core until the core is replaced.
