I really miss the format here where Carolyn could just blanket close all threads that went 90 days without any activity. Very few people use the search funtion which is not very good anyway .
One forum has the annoying policy of moving a repeat question ( what kind of oil do I need ?) to a thread of oil questions. Someone who is new to a forum will just go somewhere else instead of digging through hundreds of posts.
But that’s why there’s this amazing thing called Search. I don’t know if this forum has search-within-thread capability, as do forums on Xenforo (DriveAccord, etc).
Must’ve been me! I have no gripes about the search function here. I have been able to find what I’m looking for so far. Perhaps it helps to have expectations in line with most search features (i.e. low). I’m not expecting to input the word “oil” and have a specific post I crafted 15 years ago pop out at the top of the list
Searching does take some skill in conjuring up relevant keywords and/or a recollection of the post content that might be unique. Remember, you’re unique, just like everyone else!
That being said, external search engines work pretty well to unearth posts here too. Just include the keyword “Cartalk”…
Things were different ten years ago, the OP from this tread used to call the moderator frequently, to request threads to be locked. He objected to anyone replying to threads that were more than a few weeks old. A select few had control over what was accessible for discussion.
Today it is acceptable to revive an 11 year old thread.
