Chrysler Pacifica Making Strange Noise

I am considering purchasing a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. It seems to be in excellent shape except for one thing–it makes a very noticeable creaking noise. The noise is coming from the front end and seems to only appear at very slow speeds (like in parking lots). The seller told me up front about the noise, and explained that it didn’t start until he had someone “jerk” him out of a snowdrift in Colorado. He says that was about 4 years ago. He tells me he has had the front end aligned, he has had two motor mounts replaced and has had either the tie rods, or the tie rod ends (I’m not sure which) replaced, but the noise is still there. He claims mechanics can’t find anything else wrong with it, and they assure him it is safe to drive.

Blue Book value is 4600. He wants 3000.

Any ideas what the problem is? Is this possibly a good buy?

Thanks,

Dan.

Is the noise present while turning ?

You may want to find a copy of 2 page Chrysler Technical Service Bulletin # 02-004-05, written for Chyrsler technicians, that addresses squawking, squeaking, creaking, and/or grinding, from the front struts while turning during low speed maneuvers.

The bulletin applies to only 2004 - 2005 Pacificas and 2001 - 2005 Town & Country and Caravan/Voyager vehicles.

The fix outlines diassabling the strut assemblies and using a special Chysler Nye Grease (Chrysler part number) to lube the jounce bumpers.

A Chrysler dealer has the bulletin and can diagnose this for you as outlined in their bulletin.

Sway bar bushings also make a creaking noise.

Ok, the noise IS present while turning…at least at low speeds.

The Struts Turn When The Steering Wheel Is Turned. It Could Be Those Rubber Jounce Bumpers On The Struts As Was Mentioned.

With the vehicle raised and weight off the front wheels, you’re supposed to be able to get hold of the dust covers/sleeves on the struts and turn them/move them front and back/side to side and make some noise, similar to what you’re complaining about, if that’s the source of it.
